November 28, 2018 – Ann Sherman selected as Vice President for Business and Finance

To: Campus Community
From: President Gayle Hutchinson

I am delighted to announce that Ms. Ann Sherman has accepted the position of Vice President for Business and Finance.

Ms. Sherman comes to California State University, Chico from San Francisco State University, where she has served as the senior associate vice president for Human Resources, and also as interim vice president of Administration and Finance and chief financial officer. She began her position in 2014, providing leadership, strategic guidance and management oversight for all Administration and Finance activities. She co-chaired the University Budget Committee and Capital Planning and Sustainability Committee, and launched the Campus Leadership Forum and Emerging Leaders Program.

Prior to her current appointment, Ms. Sherman served from 2007 to 2014 as director of Human Resources, equal opportunity officer and Title IX coordinator at Northern Michigan University in Marquette, Michigan. She held multiple roles in private industry before her work at Northern Michigan, culminating in vice presidential roles with similar scope in a global medical device company.

Ms. Sherman has a bachelor’s degree in psychology with double minors in finance and sociology from the University of Michigan, Dearborn. She has completed all graduate requirements with the exception of her dissertation in industrial/organizational psychology at Wayne State University in Detroit.

“Ms. Sherman earned this important appointment as a result of her impressive array of human resources, information technology, budget & finance, labor relations, strategic planning, facilities, and audit experiences at San Francisco State, the University of Northern Michigan, and the private sector” said Dr. Charles Zartman, chair of the search committee. “Her recent work as the interim vice president for Administration and Finance has given her a deep understanding of the CSU system and the duties associated with this position. Her warmth, confidence, candor, and down-to-earth manner enabled her to foster connections with all campus constituencies during her campus visit.”

Ms. Sherman wanted to share these comments with the campus: “I am thrilled to be joining the Chico State community, particularly during this time of pulling together for the greater Chico and Paradise communities. Seeing the Chico State values in action has reinforced my belief that this will be a great fit, and I’m eager to contribute my expertise in service to the campus and the challenges ahead of us.”
