Interim Vice President for Student Affairs Selected

To: Campus Community

From: President Gayle E. Hutchinson

In preparing for the upcoming retirement of Vice President for Student Affairs Drew Calandrella, I am pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Pedro W. Douglas as interim vice president beginning July 1, 2017. Pedro will serve in this capacity until a new vice president for Student Affairs is selected. Pedro’s administrative and leadership experiences will provide stability to the division while the search for a new vice president takes place.

Pedro has served as the associate vice president for Student Affairs since October 2007. In this role, he has been responsible for oversight of the division budget and personnel functions. He serves on the University’s Fiscal Administration Committee, and prepares and presents division fiscal updates to the University Budget Committee. In addition, his areas of direct report include University Housing, Student Judicial Affairs, the Career Center, and Student Health Service and its partners: the Counseling and Wellness Center, Campus Alcohol and Drug Education Center, and Safe Place.

Vice President Calandrella says, “I am delighted that Pedro will be serving the Division of Student Affairs and the Chico State campus as interim vice president. Pedro is familiar with all areas of the division, having had oversight of most areas throughout his tenure. He has provided excellent leadership in HR and budget matters for the division and campus, and he is respected by the managers and staff within the Division of Student Affairs and throughout other divisions as well. His appointment will provide valuable continuity.”

Prior to his role as associate vice president, Pedro served as the director of Student Health Service from 2001 to 2007. He earned his EdD in educational leadership from the University of Southern California, an MS in organizational management from Central Connecticut State University, and a BS in management science from Kean University.

Please join me in congratulating and welcoming Pedro Douglas to his new responsibilities and role at Chico State.

Sincerely,
President Gayle E. Hutchinson
