June 1, 2017 - New Science Building Funding Announcement

To: Campus Community
From: President Gayle E. Hutchinson

I want to share good news from the Chancellor's Office regarding the new science building. The CSU approved an increase of $11.6 million (a revised total of $94.533 million) for the construction of the building. The decision is largely due to construction cost increases, but also will fund an increase in the building square footage by approximately 5,000 square feet to accommodate increased enrollment in Science Education. This funding increase will allow the campus to build a state-of-the-art facility to meet the growing demand of the College of Natural Sciences.

The University has selected DPR Construction-SmithGroup JJR as the Design-Build team to provide the design and construct the building. Kickoff for the design phase is scheduled for June 1, 2017, and the design process will continue through the end of 2017, concluding with a request for approval to the Board of Trustees targeted for January 2018. The demolition of Siskiyou Hall is expected in June 2018, with move-in targeted for late 2020.
