July 27, 2018 – Wildfire response

To: Campus Community

From: President Gayle E. Hutchinson

Dear Campus Community,

As I’m sure many of you know, firefighters are battling wildfires across the state. The Carr Fire reached the city of Redding last night and continues to burn out of control, destroying homes and forcing the evacuation of several communities. We recognize that many of our students, employees, and alumni have deep roots in these North State communities and may be directly affected or have family and friends who are impacted. To them, we extend our deepest sympathies and support.

As we strive to meet the needs of our Northern California neighbors, we will provide assistance as needed, including sending University Police officers to Redding to support evacuations and security operations. We will continue to share information as it is available, including how our campus community can meet the needs of those affected. I’m grateful for the concern and support we have already witnessed during this difficult time.
