April 9, 2020 – Science Building Move-In Delayed
To: Faculty and Staff
From: President Gayle Hutchinson
I want to provide the campus community with an update regarding the Science Building construction project and timeline following last weekend’s message about suspending work on the building for a minimum of two weeks because of a contract worker’s COVID-19 diagnosis.
In consultation with the contractor DPR Construction, Cabinet members, and Associate Vice President Mike Guzzi, a determination has been made that the project will not be completed as anticipated for the summer 2020 move-in with classes beginning in the new building in fall 2020.
We are revising the move-in target for the fall semester with classes beginning in spring 2021. This timeline is based on work proceeding on April 20, 2020 with no additional delays. Classes will continue to meet in the old Physical Science Building for fall 2020 and the timeline of the Butte Hall construction project will be delayed as well.
I am sure you share with me the disappointment in the delay of the new Science Building and other construction projects, however, it is imperative that the health and safety of our campus community remain our top priority.
