March 13, 2020 – COVID-19: Small Gatherings, Recruitment and Campus Visitations
To: Campus Community
From: President Gayle Hutchinson
As campus continues to address the rapidly changing response to COVID-19, we want to reinforce our primary concern for the health of our students, staff, faculty, and our Chico community. In accordance with recommendations from the California Department of Public Health, we are therefore implementing the following measures to protect public health and slow the rate of transmission of COVID-19.
Definitions
Small Gatherings - Any event, activity or program that brings less than 100 people together in a single room or single space at the same time, such as an auditorium, stadium, arena, large conference room, meeting hall, cafeteria, or any other indoor or outdoor space. This includes gatherings in crowded auditoriums, rooms or other venues.
Social Distancing - a practice recommended by public health officials to stop or slow down the spread of contagious diseases. It requires the creation of physical space between individuals who may spread certain infectious diseases. The key is to minimize the number of gatherings as much as possible and to achieve space between individuals when events or activities cannot be modified, postponed, or canceled.
Small Gatherings
In accordance with current California Department of Public Health requirements, smaller gatherings held in venues that do not allow social distancing of six feet per person should be postponed or canceled.
Recruiting
Potential Employee Recruitments – All applicant interviews for non-essential staff and administration employment vacancies are suspended until further notice. Campus Vice Presidents are ultimately responsible for determining which employment vacancies are essential. Faculty recruitments will be addressed under separate guidelines from Academic Affairs. Questions about current vacancies should be directed to Employment Services or the Office of Academic Personnel as appropriate.
Student – all types of in-person student recruitment (non-employment) are suspended until further notice. This includes campus tours and off-campus recruiting. Any employee currently engaged in off-campus recruiting must cease in-person recruitment immediately.
