April 14, 2022 – Chico State to Award Honorary Doctorate Degree
Dear Campus Colleagues,
I’m thrilled to announce that California State University, Chico and the CSU Board of Trustees will award an honorary doctorate to a remarkable, distinguished alumna at this spring’s Commencement ceremonies.
Disability rights leader Sheikha Jameela bint Mohammed Al-Qasimi (Psychology, ’83) will be awarded an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters (LhD) degree on Wednesday, May 18, 2022. The degree will be conferred in recognition of her commitment to equity and empowerment, innovative humanitarian efforts, and incredible advocacy.
Sheikha Jameela joins an elite list of just over 500 honorary degree(opens in new window) recipients across the CSU, as the system recognizes those who have demonstrated excellence in areas that benefit CSU campuses, the state, nation, world, or humanity. She is Chico State’s 22nd honorary degree recipient in our 135-year history.

Please join me in celebrating her and the inspiration she has been for our students, faculty, and staff for nearly 40 years. She is the epitome of what it means to Do and Dare, and we are honored to recognize her once again as one of our own.
Sincerely,
Gayle E. Hutchinson
