January 7, 2022 – Spring Classes to Continue as Planned

Dear Campus Community,

In my heart, I hope that each and every one of you were able to enjoy time with family and friends over winter break. I also hope that you were able to find downtime to rest, recharge and take care of yourself. The last few years have not been easy, that’s for sure. I am greatly appreciative of your sacrifice, dedication and perseverance to stay focused on student success while advancing the mission of Chico State. Now, we must gear up for a spring semester where we will continue to navigate the COVID-19 pandemic.

So, I write today to tell you, as of right now, a majority of courses will be conducted in person this spring. The first day of instruction is January 24.

At Chico State, we are committed to prioritizing the health of our students, faculty and staff, and the greater community. Our campus pandemic management team has been working very closely with the Butte County Public Health Department to monitor the situation. Experts suggest that omicron cases are expected to peak around the middle of this month. While the number of COVID cases on campus will likely rise, we have demonstrated effective management of COVID-19. Therefore, we are confident that we can hold classes and activities on campus this spring in ways that are safe and meaningful.

Please be on the lookout for communication next week from the pandemic management team about booster shot requirements, recommended COVID-19 testing, and additional guidelines.

As we continue to monitor the pandemic, we will share any updates to plans for spring 2022. I deeply appreciate your partnership and patience as we continue to navigate this challenging period together.

Sincerely,

Gayle E. Hutchinson

President
