May 25, 2022 – Enough is Enough
Dear Campus Community,
I was devastated to learn that 19 children and two teachers were fatally shot at a Texas elementary school yesterday. The heartbreaking tragedy in Uvalde occurred 10 days after the deadly shootings in Buffalo and Laguna Woods.
This year alone, the United States has been traumatized by 27 school shootings with injuries or death. During the past two decades, more than 275,000 school children have experienced some form of gun violence. And, mass shootings are not only happening in schools; hundreds have occurred in places where we shop, work, worship and relax.
Enough is enough.
Wildcats, I encourage you to express your outrage and advocate for whatever you believe will bring change. Regardless of which way you lean politically, we all MUST come together and find sensible solutions that address the unacceptable gun violence in this country. Please don’t become numb to these tragic and senseless killings of innocent children and people. Take positive action by writing or calling your elected state and federal officials.
I also urge each of you to take good care of yourselves and your families during this difficult time. Remember that we have support services and assistance available to all students, faculty, and staff.
Sincerely,
Gayle E. Hutchinson
President
