February 17, 2023 – Resignation of Vice President for Business and Finance
Dear Campus Community,
I write today to share the bittersweet news that Vice President for Business and Finance Ann Sherman has accepted a job as Executive Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration at University of Colorado, Denver. She will conclude her service to Chico State in April.
As the daughter of two educators, Vice President Sherman developed an appreciation for learning at an early age. After conducting her graduate work in industrial/organizational psychology, she worked in private industry until 2007 when she returned to higher education, serving at Northern Michigan University and San Francisco State University. In January 2019, she was named VP for Business and Finance at Chico State, as well as Chief Financial Officer.
During her tenure, she built the Business and Finance group into a high-functioning team, initiated the LEAD6 leadership development program, increased the predictability and transparency of our budget processes, served on the Chico State Enterprises and University Foundation Boards, partnered with the Associated Students, particularly with regard to bookstore operations, and secured significant CSU support for Chico State facilities projects, including the Facilities Management and Services Yard Project. I’m grateful for her stalwart leadership and partnership as a member of my Cabinet and especially commend how she ensures employee voices and ideas are heard through her skip-level meetings as we consider how we collectively address the enrollment and budget challenges ahead.
Please join me in thanking Vice President Sherman for her contributions and dedication to Chico State, and her nine years of service to the CSU.
A search to fill the role will be initiated by the next president of Chico State. Over the next several weeks, I will be considering the best approach for appointing an interim following VP Sherman’s departure.
