October 6, 2022 – Hiring Slowdown
To: Campus Community
From: President Gayle Hutchinson
In response to the significant challenges we are facing because of our student enrollment decline, including the financial obligations required of us by the State and the CSU, I have directed a hiring slowdown of faculty and staff, effective immediately. The slowdown will remain in effect until further notice.
Unless a position is mission critical to university operations and/or aligned with program revitalization and growth, as determined by the appropriate Vice President, current active and upcoming searches may be paused. Recruitments selected to move forward may be reposted as temporary. Exceptions to this directive may include recruitments that have progressed to the interviewing phase on or before October 7, 2022.
We will continue to monitor our financial and operational well-being throughout the evolving challenges of our enrollment and retention, and will make changes to this hiring practice as conditions permit. I encourage you to attend the December 12, 2022, University Budget Committee meeting to learn more about our enrollment and financial challenges. Please watch campus announcements for more information.
I sincerely appreciate your partnership as we work together to build viable solutions for institutional health and student success.
