March 6, 2024 - U.S. Border Patrol Scheduled to Attend Upcoming Career Fair

Dear Campus Community,

I am reaching out on behalf of the Career Center to share that U.S. Border Patrol - Customs and Border Protection is scheduled to attend its upcoming career fair on March 27, 2024.

Recruiters will only be on campus to offer information about employment opportunities to students. Additionally, all employers will park off-campus and be shuttled to campus.

We understand that the presence of U.S. Border Patrol - Customs and Border Protection on our campus may cause concern for some members of our community and campus allies.

To address concerns and provide support specific to this event, the Career Center is working with the Vice President for Student Affairs office, the Office of EDI, Latinx Equity and Success, the Dream Center, the Counseling Center, and Associated Students Government Affairs. Together, they are implementing the following supportive measures:

  • The Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights (CHIRLA) will offer a hybrid “Know Your Rights” presentation(opens in new window) on Thursday, March 14th at 4:00 p.m. in SSC 150 and via Zoom.
  • Drop-in counseling services will be available during career fair hours. Contact the Dream Center for additional information.
  • Providing a list of career fair employer contacts and their contact information to students who feel uncomfortable attending.

The Career Center’s policies prioritize equity of access to campus recruiting activities for all employers who comply with our guidelines. We encourage individual students to assess which employers align with their talents, values, and interests.

We also want our undocumented students to know that we stand with them. As a reminder, per University and CSU system policy, University Police does not undertake joint efforts with federal immigration enforcement authorities to investigate, detain, or arrest individuals for violation of federal immigration law.

For additional information about the career fair or employers attending, please check out the Career Center website https://www.csuchico.edu/careers/events/c-and-i-fair.shtml(opens in new window).
