SMART Recovery

A science-based, self-empowering recovery program that supports students navigating addictive behaviors. Weekly meetings are open to all Chico State students.

Internship Opportunities

Graduate Master’s Social Work Interns play a vital role in advancing campus wellness through direct student engagement and peer support programming. Interns work 16-24 hours weekly, gaining hands-on experience in health promotion and harm reduction.

Key roles include:

  • Facilitating PAWS Groups (Peer-led Advocacy & Wellness Support): Weekly student groups focused on topics like healthy relationships, stress, substance use, identity, and campus belonging.
  • Co-Facilitating SMART Recovery: A science-based, self-empowering support group for students navigating addictive behaviors.
  • Supporting the RISE Up Program at The Well: Empowering students through mentorship, community-building, and resilience-based wellness practices.
  • Outreach & Education: Supporting campus events, workshops, and wellness campaigns focused on trauma-informed prevention strategies.
  • Individual Support: Providing student-centered, strengths-based conversations for peers navigating challenges or seeking wellness resources.
Interns will receive supervision, training, and the opportunity to contribute to a caring, prevention-focused campus community.
