Logan Smith

Personal Information

Logan Smith returned to his alma mater in the fall of 2018 as an assistant professor in animal science. Smith earned his bachelor’s degree in animal science at Chico State in 2002, followed by a masters in animal biology and PhD in molecular, cellular, and integrative physiology, both from UC Davis. His graduate work focused on FGFR3, a gene responsible for dwarfism and increased bone growth in livestock and other species. He later completed a post-doctoral fellowship in human health at Oregon Health Sciences University, where he studied the causes of chronic fatigue in former cancer patients. Smith is proficient in animal models, cell culture, and molecular genetic techniques.

Before returning to CSU, Chico as a professor, Smith spent five years in his native Siskiyou County, where he worked as a senior program manager for the Siskiyou Economic Development Council and also taught a variety of courses in biology and agriculture at College of the Siskiyous.

Smith enjoys hiking, teaching, and learning new skills. He and his wife, Tammy Strobel, practice the art of simple living and physical fitness.
