Jessica Portera

Student Research Assistant
Jessica is in her first year of graduate school pursuing a Masters of Science in Environmental Science under Dr. Sandrine Matiasek. She recently graduated from California State University, Chico in May of 2024 with a Bachelors of Science in Environmental Science focused on hydrology as well as a Minor in Managing for Sustainability. Originally, during high school, Jessica's passions aligned with marine biology. However, after taking Soils and Surficial Processes with Dr. Matiasek, Jessica discovered a new passion in the wonders and workings of soil. She is mainly interested in soil water chemistry as well as water quality in general. After receiving her Masters of Science, Jessica hopes to one day work for a water district in either managing water resources or monitoring water quality of said resources. She is extremely honored to be a part of the Soil Carbon Accrual Project and to be working in Dr. Matiasek's environmental chemistry lab.
