Matthew Housley

Matt Housley is from Athens, Georgia. His love of plants and agriculture stems from time spent with his mother landscaping at his home growing up.

He went on to earn his undergraduate degree in Horticulture from the University of Georgia with a Certificate in Organic Agriculture. He has worked in many agriculture sectors before settling in Chico including landscaping, native plant production, arboriculture, and turf grass breeding. He currently manages the Ornamental Horticulture Unit at the CSUC Farm, where he uses his diverse agricultural background to propagate plants, manage facilities, and support experiential learning for fellow students. His research interests focus on understanding soil microbiota relationships and their impact on plant vigor, insect and disease resistance and regenerative soil properties.

His wife, Lauren Housley, is a Professor in the department of Nutrition and Food Science and the Director of the Didactic Program in Dietetics at CSUC. Matt and Lauren have two kids, Ollis and Avelynn. When he is not working, Matt enjoys golfing, mountain biking, gardening, and spending time with his family.
