Rachel Schleiger

Areas of Interest

Conservation bio, restoration, fire ecology, plant ecology, and ethnobotany. I also am interested in mathematics, specifically statistics. Outside of sciences I love learning about California Native American culture and took a number of classes about it as an undergraduate.

Areas of Research

My Masters thesis was focused in restoration ecology. Specially I assessed the outcome of a wet montane meadow that was restored in the Sierra Nevada. I had to utilize knowledge from ecological theory, botany, hydrology, geology, and geography to get a clearer picture of how healthy the meadow was and help predict what might happen to it in the future.

Background Experience

I started teaching as an undergraduate as a tutor and SI (2007) for everything from Chem, Physics, Bio, and Statistics. As a graduate student I continued teaching labs and lectures (2010) and haven’t stopped since. I love teaching as it combines my love of learning and passion for sharing knowledge.

Fun Facts about Rachel

I love reading, sewing, and watching movies when I’m inside. Outside I enjoy hiking, birding, and camping with my family.
