Scholarships and Financial Support

On-Campus Scholarships

Noyce Scholarships is a grant up to $12,000 per year! The Robert Noyce Scholarship program seeks to encourage talented science, technology, engineering, and mathematics majors and professionals to become K-12 mathematics and science teachers. The program provides funds to institutions of higher education to support scholarships, stipends, and programs for students who commit to teaching in high-need K-12 school districts.

The Mathematics and Science Teacher Initiative (MSTI) at California State University, Chico is focused on recruiting students to become math and science teachers. They have a special scholarship program that awards scholarships up to $3000. Additional information can be found through the Center for Math and Science Education.

Frank Pennington Memorial Scholarship is to be awarded to a high caliber, bright, capable, deserving student who has shown a strong interest in the teaching profession of mathematics or science. Recipient should have the potential to make a difference as a high school science or mathematic teacher. Dr. Frank Pennington was Dean of the College of Natural Sciences from 1969 until 1977 and was a Professor in the Department of Chemistry until he retired in 1986. He and his wife Marcia have always been concerned with the quality of high school science and mathematics teaching. The Paul G. Hewitt Scholarship for Future High School Physics Teachers(opens in new window) is offered directly by the Physics Department.

Off-Campus Scholarships and Financial Support

The AFCEA Educational Foundation(opens in new window) is offering 50 scholarships of $5,000 each to students actively pursuing an undergraduate degree, graduate degree or credential/licensure for the purpose of teaching STEM (science, technology, engineering or math) subjects at a U.S. middle or secondary school.

The Federal Perkins Loan Teacher Cancellation(opens in new window) is a program applies to teachers who have taught in an elementary or secondary school in the fields of science. If a borrower is eligible for teacher cancellation under any of the categories, up to 100 percent of the loan may be canceled for teaching service.

The Knowles Math & Science Teaching Fellowships (opens in new window)are for students who have received a bachelor's or advanced degree in science and are committed to teaching high school science. The fellowship supports them professionally and financially for up to five years through a teacher preparation program to eligibility for tenure.

The Society of Physics Students (SPS) has a $2000 Future Teacher Scholarship(opens in new window).

The American Association of Physics Teachers offers the Barbara Lotze Scholarship(opens in new window) for future high-school physics teachers for up to $2000 for each of four years.
