Student Learning Center Artificial Intelligence Statement

AI Integration in Tutoring & Mentoring Services at the Student Learning Center

At the Student Learning Center, we're committed to helping you achieve your academic goals. To support this, our peer educators may, at times, use advanced tools, including artificial intelligence (AI), to enhance our tutoring and mentoring services.

While technology can make these services more efficient and effective, our main focus is always on personal interaction and the expertise of our human tutors and mentors. Human connection is valuable beyond just exchanging information. Advanced tools are there to help improve your tutoring experience, but the real work is still up to you.

Our peer educators bring their experiences with campus courses and collaborating with faculty into their tutoring and SI sessions. They can explain course concepts, provide context-specific advice, and offer emotional and social support by motivating and encouraging you. They can help guide you through some of the toughest parts of your academic journey.

We believe in the ethical use of AI and digital tools in academic, research, and professional settings. Our team is dedicated to learning about new technologies, demonstrating their appropriate use, and helping students become responsible digital citizens in a rapidly changing world.

We respect academic freedom and understand that instructors can set specific guidelines for using AI in their courses. We also acknowledge that AI usage raises some concerns. All students must follow their course syllabus policies and uphold CSU Chico’s academic integrity standards. Students should be aware that the misuse of AI can lead to disciplinary action from the university.

We believe AI is here to stay. By combining the latest tools with the expertise of our CSU Chico student peer educators, we can offer better learning support today and prepare you for tomorrow’s careers.

If you have any questions or concerns about AI in our services, please reach out to us. Your feedback helps us continue to improve and support student success. You can also find additional resources regarding CSU Chico’s policies on AI and Academic Integrity linked below.
