CSU, Chico’s School of the Arts presents the dance event, Unity in Motion. The performance takes place Friday and Saturday, December 14 and 15 at 7:30 p.m. in Harlen Adams Theatre. Purchase tickets at the University Box Office, 530-898-6333.

Unity in Motion is a faculty choreographed dance showcase featuring a piece from Momentum (a student-run organization). It will include a variety of different styles such as: ballet, contemporary jazz, hip hop, modern and musical theatre dance.

Director Megan Glynn Zollinger (Department of Music and Theatre assistant professor of dance), Sheree Henning (Department of Music and Theatre faculty), Tyler Farmer (guest artist), and JaNae McLaughlin (kinesiology faculty), are responsible for this year’s pieces and choreography.

Even though there was a dance showcase in 2016 that featured faculty and student choreography, there has not been an all-faculty showcase at Chico State since 1991. This was due to the dance program being eliminated. Zollinger’s goal is to make this showcase an annual event.

“I’m not necessarily reinventing the wheel, I’m just making it a faculty concert that I plan to continue in the future,” Zollinger said.

Dancing and choreography has always been a huge part of Zollinger’s career. She has had plenty of experience in creating, training and directing. Zollinger worked as a jazz dance director at Westlake School for the Performing Arts. A lot of her students went on to be featured on television shows such as America’s Best Dance Crew, America’s Got Talent and So you Think you Can Dance.

“Dance is a unique artform in which we are able to communicate, entertain, discover, challenge, and heal simply using the human body,” added Zollinger. “This will be a representation of that passion, talent and community working together.”
