Fall 2019 Ensemble Concerts

Choral Ensembles: Hear the Joyful News

CSU, Chico’s School of the Arts’ has numerous thrilling ensemble concerts to fill the fall 2019 semester. These ensembles include the Choral Ensembles, Symphonic Winds, Jazz X-Press and Chico State Guitar Ensemble. 

The University Chorus, Acappella Choir, and Chamber Singers come together to present their fall concert, Hear the Joyful News. The concert takes place Saturday, Oct. 26 at 7:30 p.m. in Harlen Adams Theatre. Featured will be the Gospel Mass of Robert Ray. Tickets are available at the University Box Office or by calling 530-898-6333. 

“Gospel tunes fill the air in this concert,” said David Scholz, director and Department of Music and Theatre faculty member.

The Symphonic Winds Ensemble is led by a new director, Chris Navarrete. The fall concert, Classically Bands takes place Saturday, Nov. 2 at 7:30 p.m. in Harlen Adams Theatre. Hear the changes in the voice of the band since Holst composed his First Suite for Band 100 years ago in this remarkable walk through time with a host of marches. “I am looking forward to continuing the excellence Dr. Tevis has established with growing music performance and education in the North State,” said Navarrete, director and Department of Music and Theatre faculty member.

Symphonic Winds: Classically Bands

The Jazz X-Press revels in how they live, breathe and express themselves through jazz in their fall concert, Soul-Ciology. This concert takes place Saturday, Nov. 9 at 7:30 p.m. in Harlen Adams Theatre. Tickets are available at the University Box Office or by calling 530-898-6333.

“Come join the Jazz X-Press for a night of jazz celebration!” said Rocky Winslow, director and Department of Music and Theatre faculty member. 

Wrapping up the semester’s ensemble concerts is the Chico State Guitar Ensemble. Their Fall Recital takes place Friday, Dec. 13 at 5 p.m. in Rowland-Taylor Recital Hall. There will be a varied program made up of solos, duos, quartets and works for large ensemble. This recital is free and open to the public.

“We play a variety of music, so there’s something for everyone,” said Tobin Roye, director and Department of Music and Theatre faculty member.
