Scholarship Application Requirements and Procedures

Scholarships are designed to help cover your educational expenses next year. In order to be eligible for Sociology or university scholarships, then, you must be continuing as a full-time student in Fall 2018. To apply for a Sociology scholarship, you must complete both of the following:

  1. The university application, which must be completed online, find it in the Financial Aid Office website. The university application asks for some basic information, as well as short answers to a handful of open-ended questions about yourself and your accomplishments. Please note that the university application also requires that a faculty member submit a letter of recommendation for you. The deadline for the university application (including the letter of recommendation) is February 15, 2018.
  2. The departmental application to the Department of Sociology, which consists of filling out an Awards Application Cover Sheet, and writing a brief, one-to-two page essay specific to the scholarship(s) to which you are applying. The Application Cover Sheet is available in the Sociology department office located in 615 Butte Hall, or can be filled out online from the link provided at the top of the page. The deadline to turn in this essay and its accompanying cover sheet is 5 p.m, March 1, 2018.  Please submit all required items to the Sociology Department, Butte Hall Room 615.

If you apply for more than one scholarship, you will only need to complete one online application, and one department application (which includes the coversheet and essay). Scholarship applicants are strongly encouraged to also apply for Sociology Department Awards.
