Teaching and Research Interests

Professor Ann Schulte joined the Department of Education at CSU, Chico in 2001. Previous to graduate school, Dr. Schulte taught elementary and middle school and coached high school debate. Since joining the School of Education at Chico State, she has taught a variety of teacher education courses, with an emphasis on social justice education, democratic education, place-conscious education and rural education. Professor Schulte has advised and supervised students in the Multiple Subject, Rural Teacher Residency, and in the MA in Education programs. She also serves on the Statewide CSU Academic Senate. Schulte is a self-study scholar and has co-edited a text with Dr. Bernadette Walker-Gibbs titled Self-studies in Rural Teacher Education (Springer, 2015). In addition, Schulte has authored a chapter in the 2004 The International Handbook of Self-Study of Teaching and Teacher Education Practices and is the author of Seeking Integrity in Teacher Education (Springer, 2009). Dr. Schulte is a member of the Self-study of Teacher Education Practice SIG in the American Education Research Association, having served as its past president. She has also served in leadership roles for the National Association of Multicultural Education. In 2011, Dr. Schulte was awarded the Taking it to the Classroom Award and the Outstanding Teacher Award in 2011-12.
