Teaching and Research Interests

Dr. Char Moffit comes to Chico with twelve years experience as a public school educator in Las Vegas, Nevada. She was a kindergarten teacher, a first grade teacher, and a literacy specialist in elementary schools in the Clark County School District. As a teacher, she found that she was interested in sharing her love of science and animals with her students. She taught her students about animals through hatching chicks and ducklings with an incubator and by having a saltwater touch tank with invertebrates including sea stars in her classroom. She received her doctorate from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in 2013. Her dissertation titled, Kindergarteners' Concept Development in Science and Literacy Learning through Concept-Oriented Reading Instruction (CORI), was a qualitative study that examined the benefits of integrating science and literacy in the elementary classroom.

Dr. Moffit teaches in the multiple-subject pathway. She believes in providing students of all ages and backgrounds with hands-on experiences to make learning fun and engaging.
