Biography

The field of education is dynamic, critical, flexible, and full of adventure and learning: there's nowhere else Kristin Lower wants to be. What is the purpose of public education? Assuming we can agree on the notion that equitable public education is a necessity in the collaborative creation of a true democracy, the importance of the work need not be defended; equitable public education is innately necessary and critical. That said, there are varying philosophies in pedagogy; Kristin's is clear and defined by two broad strokes. Every one of her curricular and instructional decisions nests under the following beliefs: one, teachers are facilitators and collaborators co-learning with students as they construct knowledge through multi-level critical thinking and real-life, authentic learning; and two, all students have a right to equitable education and an ability to learn through the principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) with a focus on students' assets.
