Outstanding Student in the Major

Each spring, the Spanish faculty choose one graduating student each in the general Spanish major and in the Spanish pre-credential major who has demonstrated academic excellence and exceptional dedication to their study of Spanish during their time in the program. Each nominee is awarded $100 and is recognized at the HFA Awards Event in April.

Betsy, a retired teacher, also supports a Spanish Language scholarship, and returns to campus regularly for Phi Sigma Iota events, of which she is an honorary member. The award recipient is selected based on his or her application each spring by a committee chaired by the Dean.
