Student Transition And Retention Center

Anna L Flores

Academic Advisor

Anna grew up in a small community outside of Chico. As an older, non-traditional first-generation transfer student from Butte Community College in 2013 earned both her Bachelor’s and a Master’s Degree in the field of Social Work from Chico State (BSW 2015 and MSW 2016). Anna understands the challenges of balancing academics, campus involvement along with an active personal life. As a student, she was a member of L.E.A.D. (Leaders Educating for the Advancement of Dreamers), REACH (Raising Educational Achievement in Collaborative Hubs) and also worked as a Peer Advisor for the Summer Orientation Program as well as an Academic Advising Intern with Academic Advising. It was a combination of all her student involvement that gave her the skillset to work with first-generation students in achieving their educational goals through self-advocacy and bolstered her passion for wanting to help students achieve their academic success.

Upon graduating with her Masters, she joined Academic Advising Programs in 2016, and has continued to engage with diverse student populations by providing resources and the guidance needed for their success. Along with her role as Liaison to the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences. Anna now serves as the Academic Coordinator for the STAR Center. In her free time, you can find Anna reading, sewing or scrapbooking, working in her garden, or as an Anglophile, watching Doctor Who.

Goals For the Star Center

Anna’s goal for the STAR Center is for the Center to become an area where students can engage with each other to develop successful academic skills and behaviors. Through the Center’s campus partnerships, we will provide students the resources while in their pursuit of their academic goals.
