Jackelin Villalobos

Professional Development and Transfer Coordinator, Natural Sciences

Jacky is from Escondido, California in the San Diego area. She graduated from Chico State in 2020 with a Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences. During her undergraduate education, Jacky worked in the Chico Student Success Center (CSSC) and the Cross-Cultural Leadership Center (CCLC). Through her personal experiences as well as working within diverse communities, Jacky grew a passion for having underrepresented voices in STEM heard. Additionally, as an undergraduate, she participated in the CSC² undergraduate research program investigating the genetics of Scoliosis. This drove her to continue her education and is now completing her Master’s in Biological Sciences. Her project focuses on characterizing differences in Scoliosis bone cells using the Medaka (Japanese rice fish) model. As a graduate student, Jacky has served as a Peer-Plus Mentor for the Adelante program at Chico State, focusing on helping Latine students get into and through graduate school with adequate support. She enjoys working closely with students and building meaningful relationships that translate into their academic and personal success and growth. In her free time, she likes to watch Marvel movies, spend time with friends and family, and explore Northern California.
