No, we welcome all students to apply to live with University Housing. Our second-year-and-above students live at University Village, our apartment-style living community, along with first-time freshmen.

The Parking Lottery is the only opportunity to purchase a permit. Residents are entered into the Parking Lottery after University Housing has confirmed that they will have a bed space. Instructions on how to sign up will be sent to students via their Wildcat email. Permits need to be repurchased for spring, and all lottery winners will be invited to a second priority purchase period in January to buy their spring permits.

Important: Parking is extremely limited in our B and UV lots. Our residence halls (Esken, Mechoopda, Konkow, Éstom Jámani, Lassen, and Shasta) host 1,000 residents with 260 spaces available, and University Village hosts 700 residents with 300 spaces. If you are not able to purchase a permit, it is strongly advised that you leave your car at home.

Chico is an extremely bike-friendly campus, and you can get to everything you need within minutes. For other transportation or parking options (G parking permits), visit the Parking Services website.

Room Assignment and Roommates

The initial release of Priority Lottery results will begin in mid- to late April. You will be notified at that time if you have a confirmed space with University Housing. If you did not win the Priority Lottery, you will be notified that you have been placed on the waitlist. Often, students on the waitlist end up getting a bed space with University Housing.

Our first wave of assignment notifications will begin around mid- to late June. Notifications will continue approximately every two weeks, in order of placement, until assignments are complete. You will find out your community and room type when your group is processed.

July 1–31 is our reassignment request period. If you are unsatisfied with the community you have been assigned to, you may request a reassignment through the University Housing Resident Center. If an eligible space becomes available, you may be reassigned, and your room rate and meal plan will be automatically adjusted.

University Housing primarily provides double rooms (two students per room), followed by triple rooms (three students per room) and quad rooms (four students per room). There are a limited number of single rooms (one student per room).

All students with confirmed bed spaces for fall will be invited to participate in roommate matching in May. Students will have the opportunity to message other students and request a roommate. Roommate requests are fulfilled based on matching room and building requests and are not guaranteed. Please review our Roommate Matching FAQ.

When you fill out the University Housing application, you will be asked for your wish list. University Housing will try to accommodate wish lists but cannot guarantee placement. Please note that there are a limited number of single rooms, and they are more expensive. Please review the Cost Overview page for room rates.

Fees and Charges to Student Account

No, the $300 Initial Housing Payment is included in your total housing costs and is not an additional fee. However, it is nonrefundable, even if you cancel. Please see our Cost Overview page.

University Housing room and board (meal plan) payments are due in eight convenient installments. Please see our Cost Overview page for installment due dates.

When damage caused by a student is found in a room and there is no record of pre-existing damage from the time the student checked into the space, the resident(s) assigned to the room or apartment will be charged for the cost of repairing the damaged item(s). You can find more details on our Damage Billing Information page. University Housing reserves the right to assess the cost of repairs to common areas (lounges, hallways, restrooms, etc.) and distribute charges to all residents of a floor or building.

No. The $300 Initial Housing Payment is nonrefundable, even if you cancel your housing application. The payment is included in your total housing costs and is not an additional fee.

Amenities and Furnishings

Each student will have an extra-long twin bed (36" x 80"), a desk with a chair, a trash can, storage drawers, and closet space. University Village and Konkow have a table and chairs in the dining area, as well as a refrigerator, stove, and microwave in the kitchen. At University Village and Konkow, students will need to bring their own pots, pans, and cooking utensils.

Shasta, Lassen, and Mechoopda Halls have community kitchens. Éstom Jámani and Esken do not. University Village and Konkow have full-sized kitchens.

No. The only halls with bathroom lockers are Shasta, Lassen, Esken, and Mechoopda.

No. You cannot bring your own minifridge or microwave. University Housing provides a Micro-Chill refrigerator and microwave combination in every room except at University Village and Konkow, which have full kitchens and full-sized refrigerators. The Micro-Chill is provided at no additional cost.

Please make sure to read your License Agreement, as stuffed furniture, such as couches, is not allowed in the halls. This is a safety issue and helps prevent the possible introduction of bed bugs or other pests. The beds do not loft or bunk unless you are in a room that is already lofted or bunked, but they can be adjusted within about a 2-foot range. Residents are also allowed to purchase their own bed risers (6 in. max) and use them on beds that are not bunked.

Our halls have high-speed wireless internet only. All students will need to prepare their computers to connect to the campus network, eduroam. Chromebooks cannot access eduroam. If you plan to bring a Chromebook, you may need additional support from campus.

All our communities are equipped with coin-free accessible laundry facilities. Download the WASH-Connect app to pay for wash and dry and have it notify you when the laundry is done. You also use the app to submit refund requests and submit service requests for machines that have gone out of service. Check out how to download and use the WASH app.

In addition to a variety of computing services on campus, computer labs are available in most communities, and all communities have printing services. All lab computers are connected to the campus network. You can print directly from a lab computer or send documents to a printer from your personal device. Both methods use the campus CatPrints program. Students receive 50 free prints per semester and pay per print after that using funds loaded onto their ID cards.
