Fall 2026 Move-In Day will occur Thursday, August 20, from 8AM - 5PM. If a student cannot make it during Move-In Day and hours, they are welcome to arrive anytime from Friday, August 21, through Sunday, August 23.
We have a list of What to Bring (PDF) item suggestions for you. Make sure you only bring enough for the Fall semester. You can always buy more items later.
No, you cannot bring your own mini-fridge or microwave. University Housing will be providing a Micro-Chill (mini fridge/microwave combo) in every room with the exception of University Village and Konkow. The Micro-Chill will be provided at no additional cost.
It depends on your community!
Students assigned to Shasta, Lassen, Éstom Jámani, Esken, Mechoopda, or Konkow will park in a G parking lot when they arrive. The General Parking Stadium lot is the closest. Move-In Carts will be available to borrow at a tent in the General Parking Stadium lot to help you transport your belongings. Once you have unloaded, proceed to the front desk of your building to check in. Cars may park in the General Parking Stadium lot on move-in day from 8AM– 5PM. All vehicles must be removed by 5 PM. Please bring only one vehicle per student to park in this lot.
Any student who has purchased a Residential Parking Permit (B Lot Permit) should park the vehicle registered with that permit in a B Lot parking area only. These are the only areas where vehicles may be parked overnight.
Students assigned to University Village should proceed to University Village (1206 West Sacramento Ave.) and enter through the gate. Cars may temporarily park at University Village without a parking permit during Move-In. Any vehicle left overnight must have a University Village Semester Parking Permit. Once parked, please proceed to the University Village desk in the South Community Building (see the UV map) to check in.
We ask that you please leave your pets at home. It can get incredibly hot on move-in day, and we want to make sure everyone has a pleasant experience without having to worry about Fido!
The mailroom will begin accepting packages 10 days before Move-In. You can find your residence hall mailing address on the Housing Communities page.
Yes! We partner with Campus Ready to offer dorm essentials packages. You can order items and have them delivered to your home to bring with you or sent directly to campus in time for move-in. Visit the Campus Ready website to view available packages and options.
Request Your Wildcat ID Card and Submit a Photo
If you attended or are planning to attend an in-person Summer Orientation session, where you will receive your Wildcat ID card then you are all set. However, if you are unable to attend or will be or attended the virtual Summer Orientation then you will need to follow the instructions below to upload a photo for your CSU Chico Wildcat ID card as soon as possible. This will allow us to have your Wildcat ID card ready for you at move-in. Your Wildcat ID card is how you will enter your residence hall and use your meal plan.
Photo submission is typically due during the month of July. Not submitting a photo will create additional steps at move-in. You will not have access to your room or meal plan.
All Chico State students are assigned Title IX and Alcohol Awareness trainings when they are fully admitted into the Chico State system (matriculated status). All new confirmed University Housing residents are required to complete these trainings before moving into their community at the start of the semester.
It is important to check your Chico State email and CSU Learn for these assigned training courses and complete them right away.
Those who have not completed this training will not be able to view and confirm room placement, view roommates, nor enter the parking lottery with University Housing.
We know how easy it is to get around Chico! Chico State students can ride the B-Line bus, zip around on their bikes in our bike-friendly community, or simply walk to many locations.
We realize that some of you may still want to bring your car to campus. Unfortunately, we don’t have enough spaces for everyone on campus (Esken, Mechoopda, Konkow, Éstom Jámani, Lassen and Shasta Halls), which means that we use a lottery system. University Village is able to accommodate a larger majority of students who are interested in purchasing a parking permit. Both University Village and on-campus housing have a lottery system, but you are more likely to win the lottery at University Village.
If you are a “winner”, we will notify you to purchase a parking permit during what is known as the priority period that takes place in August. Official dates and times are to be determined.
If you miss this window, you will forfeit your “winner” status. Any unclaimed or leftover permits are available at a later date, until all permits are sold out. This date is to be determined.
You will be asked about your parking lottery interest during the acknowledgment of your community placement. Please make sure to review the parking permit information and rates.
If you are residing at University Village or Konkow you will want to coordinate with your roommates to see who is bringing specific items for the kitchen, common rooms, etc. You are able to message your roommates and suitemates directly on the Resident Center through your room assignment.
If you are assigned to Esken, Mechoopda, Lassen, Shasta, or Éstom Jámani Hall you were automatically assigned the 7-Day All Access meal plan.
If you would prefer to decrease your number of swipe access and Flex Cash available to you, you will have the chance to change your meal plan to the 5-Day All Access meal plan.
If you are assigned to Konkow or University Village, you were automatically assigned the Wildcat Mini Plan (averages 5 meals per week).
On our Residential Meal Plans page you can find info about dining locations and their hours.
We are thrilled to share with you that we will be offering a MicroChill unit (mini fridge and microwave combo) in all rooms in Shasta, Lassen, Éstom Jámani, Esken, and Mechoopda at no additional cost to you. UV and Konkow have full kitchens with ample fridge space and will not have a MicroChill unit in the rooms.
Students are not allowed to bring their own units.
Curious about what you should bring? Review our printable packing list which includes recommended items for bed & bath, clothing, tech, school supplies, UV/Konkow, and more.
Renters insurance is not required to live in University Housing, but it is highly recommended. You have the option to purchase renters insurance through our partner GradGuard during your housing application or directly through the GradGuard website by searching for “CSU Chico.”
If for any reason you feel that your placement is unreasonable, you can request a room reassignment. Please note that reassignment requests are not guaranteed.
Please take the time to consider whether a reassignment is truly what you want. You may submit only one request, and changes to your request will not be allowed. The University Housing Assignments Team will do all they can to accommodate your request as space becomes available. If your reassignment request has not been granted by Move-In Day, you will need to submit a new request once you have moved to campus. Room reassignments are not permitted during the first two weeks of the semester.
Want a dorm room in a bag so you’re ready to start the school year on the right foot? We partner with Campus Ready to offer dorm essentials packages. Learn more about the Campus Ready mission and purpose. You can have your items delivered to your home to bring to Chico or, for an additional fee, sent directly to campus in time for move-in. Visit the Campus Ready website to view available packages and options.

If you are moving into Éstom Jámani, Shasta, or Lassen (Central Campus Communities) or Mechoopda, Esken, or Konkow (North Campus Communities), follow these directions:
Make your way to Warner Street, a two-lane street that runs along the west side of campus. At or near the intersection of Warner Street and Legion Avenue, University Police Department personnel will direct you onto College Avenue. This is a small road adjacent to the Health Center parking lot. You may park in this location for free from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on your move-in day.
Central Campus buildings range from three to nine stories, do not all have elevators, and are not adjacent to parking.
North Campus buildings are two stories, do not have elevators, and are adjacent to a parking lot.
University Village. If you are moving into University Village, use the following address: 1206 W. Sacramento Ave., Chico, CA 95926. University Village buildings are two stories, do not have elevators, and are adjacent to a parking lot.
Students may have access to a cart to assist with move-in, based on availability (32” L x 24” W x 26” D). We encourage you to bring a hand truck or dolly to help move your belongings from your car to your room. Not all of our buildings have elevators or are adjacent to parking lots, so we encourage you to pack boxes that can be carried by one person, including up stairways. If you need special accommodations on move-in day, please contact our office at 530-898-6325.
Temporary parking is available in the Stadium parking lot. Students with a B Lot permit should park directly in the B Lot gravel parking lots next to the Stadium and WellCat Health Center parking entrance. The Campus Map shows available parking on campus, including G (General) Lots that may be used if the B Lots are full. You will need to purchase a parking permit to use the Stadium lot on Friday or after 5PM. The map also identifies employee-only parking spaces, which are not available for student parking.
You can use the Campus Map to find available parking lots. If you need to park in a G Lot, visit the parking website for information about purchasing a parking permit.
If you need accessibility assistance with the information above, please contact our office at 530-898-6325.
Your Resident Advisor (RA) should be on your floor or around your building when you arrive. Your RA is here to help you get settled; they will have information about events and activities, resources such as bike registration and IT support. In addition, you will want to complete your Room Inspection on the Resident Center within 7 days of your arrival.
Our Assignments Team worked hard to ensure that we paired you with the community you were most excited about! However, some communities have demand greater than the number of bed spaces available. If you did not receive your community preference or had a change of heart, you have the opportunity to submit a “Reassignment Request”. To submit a reassignment request, follow these steps:
If an eligible space becomes available, you may be reassigned and your room rate and meal plan will be adjusted accordingly. Please take the time to consider if a reassignment is truly what you want, you will only be allowed to submit one request and no changes to the request will be allowed.
Students under the age of 18 will be given waivers for their parent or guardian to sign.
