In-Person or Virtual Orientation

New incoming students must attend orientation before meeting with an academic advisor. It is expected that all students, first-year and transfer students, will participate in orientation at Chico State. Academic Advising is mandatory at Chico State and orientation provides the first opportunity for academic advising and course registration.

Summer Orientation

Summer Orientation session dates occur in June and July. Sessions are offered in-person and virtually. Students attend based on their academic major and must accept their offer of admission before registering.

At orientation, students will:

• Receive personalized academic advising
• Enroll in fall courses
• Discover Chico State resources designed to support a smooth transition to campus life
• Meet and connect with new and current students, as well as faculty and staff
• Learn and understand important campus policies, expectations, and state-mandated trainings
• Gain tips and information to be fully prepared for the first day of classes
• Parents and supporters are welcome to attend orientation. Please register for a session with your student.

PAWS Navigators

PAWS (Peers Assisting Wildcats for Success) Navigators program pairs incoming Chico State students with current, experienced students who are trained to support them in their journey. The current students serve as peer navigators to conduct check-ins with incoming students throughout the summer months. College can be overwhelming and many students don’t know where to go for help or are in need of advice from peers who have recently experienced the transition from high school to college. The PAWS navigators aim to provide advice along the journey, help students overcome barriers to navigate university life, and educate and empower by exploring campus resources and engagement opportunities. PAWS navigators will connect with interested students throughout the summer to provide support, address outstanding questions, or simply help connect incoming students to the university resources.

Peer mentoring is free of charge but has limited space. Email orientationprograms@csuchico.edu if you are interested in being paired with an incoming mentor or learning about beginning your journey to academic success.
