Planning on traveling or studying abroad and in need of a U.S. passport? You can now submit an application for a passport right on the Chico State Campus!
The Passport Place was established in March of 2019 and is located in the International Education and Global Engagement (IEGE) Office, Student Services Center Building, Room 440, located on the corner of West 2nd and Ivy streets. The Passport Place is open to all Chico State students, faculty, and staff as well as any U.S. Citizens!
Please note that parking on campus is very limited, so allow yourself adequate time to locate a parking space.
Please take note of current passport processing times. Routine service takes 10-13 weeks, and expedited processing (for an additional $60) takes 7-9 weeks.
Types of Passports Processed
The Chico State Passport Place is only able to process certain types of passports. Please review the types of passports that may be completed in SSC 440.
- First-time passport applicants
- Renewals if...
- Your old passport has been expired for over 5 years.
- You are going from a minor to an adult passport.
- The passport is for a minor.
All other renewals are done by mail directly to the National Passport Processing Center. See the instructions below under Form DS-82 (PDF).
Applying for a Passport
To apply for a United States Passport, you will need to follow these steps:
- Complete Form
DS-11 (PDF): Application for A U.S. Passport - Black ink only, or printed single-sided (which also can be obtained in person at the Passport Place in SSC 440). Application must be completed prior to appointment time. - Submit Completed Form DS-11 In-Person– Student Support Services Building, Room 440
- Provide Evidence of U.S. Citizenship- Original or Certified Birth Certificate, Naturalization Certificate, or previous U.S. passport (Please bring original and one photocopy*).
- Present Government Issued Identification - Photo ID (Driver's License, State ID, Military ID, etc.) and a photocopy* of front and back.
- Pay the Applicable Fees (two separate payments)—two checks (personal, certified, cashier's, traveler's), OR two money orders only—NO CASH OR CREDIT CARD ACCEPTED (see fee chart below)
- Provide One Passport Photo - NOT a service provided by the Chico State Passport Place
- Minors (under 16) must be present with BOTH parents. If the child only has one parent/legal guardian, evidence of sole custody of the child must be submitted with the application.
*(copies can be made for a 25 cent fee + tax)
Getting a Passport Photo
The Passport Place at Chico State is NOT a location where you are able to get your passport photo taken. There are certain parameters set forth by the Department of State.

- There are several places in Chico where you can go to get an appropriately sized photo.
Note: The application process must be completed in person. No part of the process can be completed by email or over the telephone. Applicant must be present to apply.
