Certified Wellness Coach

What is a Certified Wellness Coach?

Becoming a Certified Wellness Coach(opens in new window) lets you play a role in improving mental health and well-being of children and youth in California. Certified Wellness Coaches provide care to young people through prevention and early intervention services. These services support overall physical, emotional, and mental well-being. 

How to become a Certified Wellness Coach through the Education Pathway

  • Attend Chico State as a Social Work major.
  • Complete a minimum of 800 hours of supervised field experience providing behavioral health services to children & youth age 0-25 in school-linked/school-based organizations, non-profits, community organizations, and/or health centers/clinics
    • Any hours not completed during the BSW program can be completed post-graduation via relevant internship, volunteer, or work experience
  • Apply for certification (application accepted with 300 field experience hours)

The Wellness Coach Scholarship Program(opens in new window) (WCSP) supports students enrolled in a degree program that leads to Wellness Coach Certification. The scholarship is designed to increase the number of Certified Wellness Coaches in California.

Eligible applicants can receive up to $35,000 to become a Certified Wellness Coach in California. The scholarship is intended to cover education costs such as tuition & fees, housing, books & supplies, and transportation and dependent care. Click here(opens in new window) to apply!

In exchange for this scholarship, you will commit to providing 12 months of paid Certified Wellness Coach services in California upon graduation. Examples of settings include schools (K-12 and higher education), community health centers, non-profit behavioral health organizations, and tribal communities.
