Campus Supported Software

The following teaching and learning software has gone through campus review for security, accessibility, scalability, etc. And it is supported by TLP, DLT and/or ITSS.

  • Adobe Creative Cloud apps, but not Adobe Presenter - A suite of tools which includes Photoshop, Premier, Illustrator and others listed on this page. High end creative tools that cover documents, images sound, video and more. Adobe Spark is free to everyone outside of Adobe Cloud.
  • AudacityAudacity is a digital audio editor and recording software, available for Windows, macOS and others. Audacity can be used to perform a number of audio editing and recording tasks such as making ringtones, mixing stereo tracks, transferring tapes and records to computer or CD, splitting recordings into separate tracks and more.
  • Blackboard - (and associated tools) - A learning management system.  Blackboard is a tool that allows faculty to add resources for students to access online. Files and resources are created outside of Blackboard and added into Blackboard courses for students to enhance teaching and learning efforts.
  • Blackboard AllyBlackboard Ally is a tool that integrates with our Learning Management System (LMS) to provide insight into our institution's accessibility. With Blackboard Ally, you can gain an understanding of your institution's accessibility performance.
  • Box - (can be shared with @mail.csuchico.edu accounts). Cloud content management solution similar to Google-drive.  Allows sharing of and collaboration on electronic files.
  • Camtasia - Screen recorder and video editor ideally suited for creating/editing video tutorials and lessons.
  • EesySoft an LMS integrated technology which allows for real-time insight, data-driven actions, pro-active messaging with a built-in Support center.
  • Google Apps (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drive, Jamboard, Currents, etc. ) are a suite of web-based messaging and collaboration applications that Google hosts on their own servers. Google provides these applications as a "service," rather than as software to download and install.  All CSU, Chico users have an account.
  • GoReact is an online video recording tool designed to provide feedback for public speaking/speech, presentations, sign language/interpreter training, student teaching observation, and music/dance/theatrical performances. You can set access settings as to who can see the videos, create comments, or see comments.
  • Kaltura Media Server (media.csuchico.edu) Chico State's "youtube"-style video hosting platform.  Kaltura Media provides users with options to create video content in a variety of Blackboard tools such as the discussion board, blogs, journals, as well as outside the LMS. The Kaltura Media tool is a video platform that lets you upload and create media to share within the LMS and publicly.
  • Kaltura Personal Capture allows you to record videos on your personal computer and then easily share them with anyone. After a quick download and installation of the app, Kaltura Capture can record anything on your computer screen, along with your voice and webcam and is hosted/displayed by Kaltura Media Server.
  • Kurzweil A very powerful text-to-speech application that does so much more.  This is the tool that takes the lid off of content and allows all users a full and rich opportunity to engage with the materials.
  • Labster gives students access to a realistic lab experience online that will let them perform experiments and practice their skills in a fun and risk-free learning environment. (Note: this is not to be confused with Remote Labs from ITSS(opens in new window)).
  • LinkedIn Learning  was Lynda.com, offering comprehensive video trainings.  Now combined with the professional social network LinkedIn.
  • MatLab Mathworks All-in-One:  Math. Graphics. Programming. MATLAB® combines a desktop environment tuned for iterative analysis and design processes with a programming language that expresses matrix and array mathematics directly. It includes the Live Editor for creating scripts that combine code, output, and formatted text in an executable notebook.
  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.). A suite of tools common in professional settings, especially Windows but compatible with Mac.  This is the industry standard productivity suite.  
  • OneNote for Class  - Gather web content and embed existing lessons in your class notebook to create custom lesson plans. Students can use powerful drawing tools to highlight, annotate slides, sketch diagrams, and take handwritten notes.
  • Perusall - Perusall is a social annotation tool that integrates with Canvas via LTI assignments. Perusall allows students and their instructors to collaboratively markup . pdf documents. Instead of reading a document and discussing it, Perusall brings the discussion to the text.
  • Poll Everywhere  Instructors can create multiple types of activities (multiple-choice, word cloud, survey, open-ended, Q&A, Brainstorming, clickable image polls, and more) and easily integrate them into your chosen presentation software (PowerPoint, Keynote or Google Slides) or directly from Poll Everywhere web site.
  • Proctorio (need training before implementing)  A proctor tool that can be added to a Blackboard test.  Metrics include audio and video, screen capture and locks down the student's computer from accessing online content or files during a test. (More info here).
  • Pronto - Texting app connected to Bb Learn. If instructors turn-on Pronto in their Bb Learn courses, classmates will be able to chat with each other in a much more immediate, simple and contemporary way. All Bb student groups will be able to chat with each other. Faculty can communicate with students directly on their phone this way without sharing phone numbers and bypassing email.
  • Snagit  Captures any process on your computer screen and can be used to quickly create visual instructions.
  • Softchalk E-Lesson builder/author.  Create highly engaging lessons and share them through the LMS
  • Turnitin - Check the similarity of student work comparing submissions to other sources on the Internet and in Turnitin's extensive database.
  • Zoom  Video conferencing software appropriate for lectures, small groups, meetings, creating video recordings.
