TRIO Student Support Services

Leah Slem

Student Development Advisor

I went to the University of California Santa Cruz and graduated in 2006 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Community Studies and a minor in Politics.  Upon graduation I worked for a variety of non-profits which included working with adults with disabilities, as a domestic violence case worker, within a drug and alcohol treatment facility, as a political activist, within county services and also working as a legal advocate for underserved populations.  After a long search I finally found my passion and life's calling when I started working in Student Services at a private college as a high school outreach admissions representative.   I knew from that moment on that my career would forever be in Student Services within a university. From there my husband and I moved to Chico and in 2012 I started working for CSU, Chico within the TRIO Educational Talent Search project.  I stayed there for six years as an Advisor and Coordinator working to prepare and motivate first-generation and low-income youth in middle school and high school for success in post-secondary education.  In 2018 I started working for TRIO Student Support Services as an Advisor.  I love working with college students and helping them on their path towards pursuing a higher education.  I feel absolutely honored to ba a part of the TRIO students' lives and look forward to coming to work each day.  #TRIOworks!
