Pressing Poetry Talk & Opening Reception
Thursday, January 29, 5:30-7:30 PM
Join us for a conversation between Turner Curator Rachel Skokowski and Bobb Blesse, former Director of Black Rock Press at University of Nevada, Reno from 5:30-6:30 PM (Performing Arts Center, Room 134). Afterwards, enjoy an opening reception for Pressing Poetry: From Broadsides to Book Arts in the Turner.
Bob Blesse
From 1984 to 2014, Bob Blesse served as the director of the Black Rock Press, a book arts program in the Department of Art at the University of Nevada, Reno. He taught undergraduate and graduate courses in traditional and contemporary methods and theory of the book arts, including letterpress printing. He designed and produced hand-printed, limited-edition books, broadsides, and trade editions of contemporary literature. From 1981 to 2006, he was the director of the Special Collections Department at the University Library. Born and raised in Oakland, California, he received B.A. and M.A. degrees in literature from Chico State University and a Master of Library and Information Science from UCLA.
Open Mic Night

Join us for an evening of poetry, storytelling, and community at the Turner. This open mic is open to everyone – we invite you to share your own poetry or writing, read a work from our current exhibition Pressing Poetry, or simply enjoy listening to others. Snacks and drinks will be provided and sign-ups are available on arrival.
Butte County Museum Weekend

Letterpress Printing
Wednesday, March 11, 1-3pm
Get hands-on with letterpress printing and create a keepsake print to take home! No experience is needed. Try your hand at pressing the inked design and watch it come to life on paper.
