Greenie Awards

Sponsored by the Rawlins Endowment for Environmental Literacy, the Greenie Awards recognize student groups for their successful efforts and programs that work toward a more sustainable future.

Categories for Greenie Awards are based on academic level:

  • Kindergarten - 6 grade
  • Junior High, 7-8 grade
  • High School, 9-12 grade
  • Higher Education, CSU Campuses

Submissions are due March 15, 2020: 

Nominations should include projects and programs that address the goals and principles of sustainability. Sufficient detail should be provided in the following format: 

  1. Title of the project or program
  2. Age category of the submissions
  3. Entity performing project/program in sustainability
  4. Primary contact: name, title, email, cell phone
  5. Goal for the project/program (and how it addresses sustainability) 
  6. Objectives and activities
  7. Outcomes and benefits
  8. Conclusions and opportunity to scale this project/program

Winners will be announced Thursday evening during the Poster Symposium & Sustainability Awards Program at 5:00 pm in the BMU Auditorium.

Cash prizes will be presented in each category!!  $250 dollars per category will be awarded for the best project or program within the category.  

Winners in each category will be announced and honored during the Thursday evening Poster Symposium & Sustainability Award Program. Winners will have the opportunity to showcase their work via a short video or a poster during the award ceremony. 

Judging Criteria:  Projects will be evaluated by the conference planning committee and Chico State School of Education faculty.

  1. Effectively address how your project relates to sustainability goals.
  2. The project is sustainably funded and/or maintained. The project can be sustained.
  3. Replicability of the project/program.
  4. Scale (or scope) of  impact of the project and/or program. 
  5. The collaborative nature of the project (multiple partners, community members, students, staff, and/or parents). 
  6. Level of student involvement in project design and execution.

 Nominated student projects must meet the following guidelines:

  1. Student group projects only; individual projects are not considered 
  2. Clearly demonstrate an accomplishment or a significant improvement focusing on a sustainable solution implemented through the project
  3. The accomplishment must have occurred within the past two years; may be in the final planning stages but must be conceptually complete. 
  4. Groups are strongly encouraged to provide a fun, entertaining video(3 minutes maximum in length on flash drive) documenting their project for promotional purposes. 
  5. Submitted videos will be included on the conference webpage as they are received to give participants a preview of the student group projects.
  6. Nominated groups will be contacted by conference staff to confirm the status of their nominations by March 20, 2020. 

Note: Award payments will be made to the faculty or advisor leading the student project with this written, signed acknowledgement in agreement in advance of awards being issued.
