NEW Program Details

The NEW Student Awards for Research and Creative Activities (SARC) Summer Program: Chico State students to serve as assistants on a faculty research or creative project in order to develop skills, deepen knowledge, and advance the scholarship of Chico State faculty. The current award cycle is for summer 2025 and will fund up to $5,000 for undergraduate and graduate students to engage in an experience and be employed between June 1 and August 15, 2025.

PLEASE NOTE – ALLOWABLE EXPENSE REQUESTS

Funds may ONLY be requested for specific materials/supplies for learning opportunity work in summer 2025, and payroll associated with student employment for the learning opportunity during June, July and August. Foreign and overnight travel are NOT allowable expenses.

1. A faculty application must be submitted describing the research or activity being offered for the summer learning opportunity, along with the opportunity title and student recommendation.

  • Faculty Application Details
    • Identified faculty-driven research or creative project to be performed during application period
      • Explanation of the work (Narrative 750-1000 words)
    • If needed, a budget for materials, supplies or other costs to perform the research/activities over the program period to provide the learning opportunity. This budget will make up a portion of the total allowable allocation to the award of $5,000
    • Identified student recommended for award (name/student ID), also include work scope, expectations, and learning outcomes of the Chico State research/creative student employee
      • Student contribution to project (include in explanation of work)
    • Include total number of hours of work committed and time-period of work to be performed may request up to $5,000 for student payroll, minus any requested materials/supplies budget
      • (e.g., Supply budget=$800, then you may apply for remainder in payroll ($4,200)
2. A student application must be submitted identifying the faculty member, the opportunity title, and describing their interest
  • Student Application Details
    • Submit an academic resume (CV) – Career Center CV development
    • Describe the skills and experience you bring to the research/activity in question (300 word
      max)
    • Include faculty detail and project name for which you are applying
    • Explain how this work benefits your academic and professional goals, and your expected
      learning outcomes (300 word max)
    • Commitment to be able to work during the summer award period and not exceed 40 hours
      of work time combined with any other campus-based employment
