Norma Vidal
I was born and raised in Santa Ana, California and then moved up to Chico after graduating high school. I have been here for a couple of years and this little town is definitely growing on me, and I will be very sad the day I have to leave. I’m a fourth year student and will be graduating this spring. Class of 2021! I am interested in working within the mental health field, I hope to find a way to travel while advocating for mental health and working in the field simultaneously. I enjoy practicing my meditation and yoga whenever I feel unbalanced.
Being a part of Umatter has been the highlight of the year so far. Mental health has been such an important aspect of my life and I am happy to be advocating for it. My interest in mental health came after starting my own healing journey and realizing how difficult it was to have conversations regarding mental health within the Latinx community. I have always wanted to get involved in the mental health field and joining Umatter was just the first step. I enjoy working with likening individuals that understand the importance of mental health. I have also used this opportunity to focus and advocate for the mental health of our BIPOC and POC, because as a POC I understand how much of a taboo it is.
