UMatter

Steve Vilca

UMatter Intern

I grew up in Yuba City, CA that is a small town just an hour south of Chico. I attended Yuba City High School and graduated in 2018.

The reason I decided to join UMatter, is because I believe in its mission of wanting to raise awareness on mental health, and also ending the stigma behind it. Mental Health is a topic that I feel should be talked about more, and having the opportunity to educate and bring awareness on this topic to my campus community is something I feel is important.

My goal is to go to graduate school and one day become a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I want to be able to help make a positive impact in the lives of others, and also be a person who can be there for those in my community to change the way mental health is discussed. Growing up mental health was something that really wasn't’t talked about in my culture, and I want to be a resource in the future for those who are like me so that I can provide a space for them to be able to have someone that can relate with them and talk to them.

During my free time, I enjoy going on distance runs, practicing Karate, and lastly just spending quality time with family and friends.
