Report a Crime

If you are the victim or witness to a crime, please contact the University Police Department directly. Prompt reporting of any suspicious activity can help us prevent further crimes, apprehend suspects, and provide accurate data for federally mandated statistical reporting. Most importantly, prompt reporting will help University Police maintain a safe and secure campus environment.

Be prepared to answer the following questions:

Anonymous Tip Reporting is available via text, MyChicoState app or online:

UPD has partnered with tip411, which enables anyone with a cell phone to text anonymous tips to authorized personnel within UPD. These tips are received by emergency dispatchers and can be responded to quickly via an interface that allows for secure web and text based conversations. The system is 100% anonymous, as its technology removes all identifying information before police see it and there is no way to identify the sender. Messages can include photos as well as text. There are multiple ways to use this feature:

  • Tap the "Report Crime" icon in the "MyChicoState" app
  • Text the keyword "CHICOSTATE" (all one word, not case-sensitive) and the message/tip to 847411
  • Anonymous web tips can be submitted directly from UPD's website via the "Anonymous Tip Reporting(opens in new window)" link, located at the top of all UPD web pages
