SEPTEMBER15 | THEMODERNCLARINET Join CSU, Chico faculty clarinetist Ryan Heimlich and other guest musicians for an afternoon of modern clarinet works! Pieces include Morton Gould’s jazzy Benny’s Gig for clarinet and string bass, Leonard Bernstein’s Clarinet Sonata, Trip by modern bass clarinetist Michael Lowenstern, and Three Etudes on Themes of Gershwin by Paul Harvey. The afternoon will also include a clarinet choir version of Samuel Barber’s Adagio, featuring clarinet players from all over the North State! OCTOBER27 | SPACEAGE Composer and guitarist David Dvorin presents a program of original compositions inspired by America’s Space Age. Joined by Randy McKean on reeds, Clifford Childers on low brass, and Tim Bulkley on drums, the quartet deftly combines the aesthetics of contemporary art music with the freewheeling groove and grit of mid-century electric blues and jazz. NOVEMBER3 | DUOSERAPHIM Sopranos Dara Scholz and Shauna Fallihee present an afternoon program of ethereal music featuring works by Pergolesi, Mozart, Delibes, and others. FEBRUARY16 | “IFMUSICBETHEFOODOF LOVE,PLAYON…” Soprano Daun Weiss and pianist Kevin Anderson present a romantic program of lyrical love songs and passionate pieces for solo piano featuring works by Bellini, Brahms, Chopin, Debussy, Liszt, and Purcell. MARCH1 | IT’STRUMPETTIME CSU, Chico faculty trumpeter Ayako Nakamura presents a solo recital featuring modern works for trumpet. This performance will showcase several works by living composers as well as guest musicians. The program will include Nightsongs by Richard Peaslee, Night Sun Journey by Meg Bowles, and a few others that you’re sure to enjoy.
