Ally – A new student success tool is on its way!

May 14, 2018

Chico State has long had a commitment to the improvement of content used on our websites and classrooms. In fall 2018, we will be turning on Blackboard’s ALLY tool. All your course files will be automatically scanned for accessibility as well as help you easily improve file accessibility.

We have been rolling out the Blackboard ALLY tool over the last 16 months to over 60 faculty with outstanding results.  This tool, which lives in our learning management system (Blackboard), enables students to access materials in ways that match their learning styles.  Students will have access to HTML (mobile), .EPUB, accessible pdf, braille and audio formats of any file loaded into Blackboard with no manual intervention needed from the faculty member.

This tool can help us with our Graduation Initiative 2025 efforts, as well as many other initiatives.  With this tool, we can help those ESL learners struggling to keep up.  We can help those commuting to campus.  We can also help those with undiagnosed disabilities who have yet to identify or do not want to.

We are absolutely committed to helping faculty in this process.  The Office of Accessible Technology and Services will be responsible for training and support of this product.

Here is a demo video(opens in new window) of what ALLY looks like from the faculty view.  It may also be helpful to see how students will be interacting, which can be found here: ALLY for students video(opens in new window).
