Call for GE Pathway Coordinators

2021-22 is the final year of the current General Education Pathways Program, to be replaced in 2022-23 by a revised Pathways Program(opens in new window). In this transitional period in which completely new Pathways and minors will be launched, others modified, and retiring Pathways will need to serve continuing students, the normal process of Pathway Coordinator elections is necessarily more complex. Please see below for the range of opportunities to serve in this role in the next 1-2 years.

The Curriculum Advisory Board (CAB) invites nominations for three different categories of Pathway Coordinators, beginning in Fall 2021.  

Call for 1 one-year Pathway Coordinator: one-course release (3 WTU) per year for the 2021-22 academic year

  • Great Books and Ideas
    • Each department with one or more courses in the Great Books and Ideas Pathway gets one vote in the election of this Pathway’s Coordinator.

Call for 3 two-year Pathway Coordinators: One-course release (3 WTU) per year for the 2021-22 and 2022-23 academic years

  • Health and Wellness  - This Coordinator will advise the existing Health and Wellness Pathway in 2021-22 and the revised Health and Wellness Pathway and GE Minor in 2022-23. In 2022-23, this Coordinator will also continue to advise the original Health and Wellness Pathway for students with earlier catalog rights.
    • Each department with one or more courses in the existing or revised Health and Wellness Pathway and GE Minor gets one vote in the election of this Pathway’s Coordinator. 
  • Science, Technology, and Values  - This Coordinator will advise the existing Science, Technology, and Values Pathway in 2021-22 and the new Science, Technology, and Society Pathway and GE Minor in 2022-23. In 2022-23, this Coordinator will also continue to advise Science, Technology, and Values for students with earlier catalog rights.
    • Each department with one or more courses in the Science, Technology, and Values Pathway, or with one or more courses in the new Science, Technology, and Society Pathway and GE Minor, gets one vote in the election of this Pathway’s Coordinator. 
  • Global Development Studies  - This Coordinator will advise the existing Global Development Studies Pathway in 2021-22 and the new Global Studies Pathway or GE Minor in 2022-23. In 2022-23, this Coordinator will also continue to advise Global Development Studies for students with earlier catalog rights.
    • Each department with one or more courses in the Global Development Pathway, or with one or more courses in the new Global Studies Pathway or GE Minor, gets one vote in the election of this Pathway’s Coordinator. 

Call for 2 two-year Pathway Coordinators: $500 stipend for the 2021-22 academic year and one-course release (3 WTU) for the 2022-23 academic year. During the 2021-22 academic year, these coordinators will not be CAB members, will not advise students, and will not have the full responsibilities of a Pathway Coordinator. Instead, during the 2021-22 academic year, these coordinators will attend CAB meetings and fulfill items 8-10 in the job description (PDF). In 2022-23, these coordinators will be full CAB members, with all of the duties included in the job description (PDF).

  • California Studies
    • Each department with one or more courses in the new California Studies Pathway or GE Minor gets one vote in the election of this Pathway’s Coordinator. 
  • Innovation, Design, and the Arts
    • Each department with one or more courses in the new Innovation, Design, and the Arts Pathway or GE Minor gets one vote in the election of this Pathway’s Coordinator. 

All full-time and part-time faculty are eligible to serve as Pathway Coordinators. Please see the University Catalog(opens in new window) for a list of existing GE Minors and courses. For a list of Pathway Coordinator duties, please see the job description (PDF). In Fall 2021, CAB will likely meet every other Monday from 1:00 to 2:50, to be confirmed at the final CAB meeting of this semester.
