Course Materials Adoption for Fall 2024

April 26, 2024

You may be aware that student registration for fall 2024 courses began on April 22, so we highly recommend making sure all of your course materials are in the Follett Discover system. The Higher Education Opportunity Act (HEOA) requires that all course materials are made known to students at the time of registration. Making course materials costs visible to students while they register helps them budget and prepare for fall.

In addition, the CSU Compact with the Governor agrees to provide more money to the CSU budget if we can save our students money on course materials. This will be tracked in multiple ways, including the information we submit to our bookstore system Follett Discover.

If you haven't already done so, please enter course materials for your fall 2024 courses in Follett Discover as soon as possible. You will access Follett Discover through Canvas. Follett is the tool Chico State uses that ensures students can see the required course materials at the time of registration or if the course does not require any course materials, as required by the HEOA. It also ensures the bookstore can have materials available to students the week before school starts.

  • Please follow the step-by-step instructions (Google Slide) to enter your course materials (or lack thereof) for each of your currently scheduled courses.
  • If students do not need to purchase materials for a course, faculty must still enter that into Follett Discover by selecting, “No materials are required for this course” or “only OER materials are required.”
  • Even if you think it is possible (or even likely) that you may not end up teaching courses for which you are currently scheduled, you should enter your anticipated course materials.

If you need to make any changes to a course adoption at a later date, or have any questions, reach out to Ruxy Machal at r.machal@follett.com.
