Announcing New CEO for Chico State Enterprises (CSE)

September 25, 2019
Debra S. Larson, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs

It is my pleasure to announce that Mary Sidney was selected and has accepted the Chico State Enterprises (CSE) inaugural Chief Executive Officer (CEO) position. Ms. Sidney brings 31 years of experience from Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and San Jose State University Research Foundation to CSE. Her focus will be to rebuild the organization into a unit that efficiently and effectively supports the University’s interests in growing sponsored project activities, research, entrepreneurial and innovative pursuits, and improving/expanding self-support services. Sidney begins her role as CSE CEO on Tuesday, October 1, 2019.

As a proven leader, Sidney brings a calm, collaborative, and visionary approach to the CEO role. Upon her acceptance, Sidney stated, "I am delighted to serve as the inaugural Chief Executive Officer of Chico State Enterprises. Chico State's incredible talent, commitment, and strong sense of community are inspiring, and I look forward to contributing my capabilities to help advance the goals of this remarkable campus."

Dr. David Hassenzahl, currently serving as Interim CEO, will continue as Senior Advisor to the CSE CEO for a short duration. I would like to take this opportunity to personally thank Dr. Hassenzahl for stepping into the role of Interim CEO and his tireless efforts initiating the merger of the former units of Research and Sponsored Programs and the Research Foundation. He will return to the role of Dean of the College of Natural Sciences on November 1.

Please join me in welcoming Mary Sidney to our campus community.
