Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs

Appointment of Executive Director for the Research Foundation

May 9, 2018
Debra S. Larson, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs

With the completion of a national search, it is my pleasure to announce on the behalf of the Research Foundation Board that Jessica Bourne has accepted the position of Executive Director of the CSU, Chico Research Foundation. She will step into her new role on June 1, 2018.

Bourne has been serving as the interim executive director for the Research Foundation since August 2016. She was selected for the interim role based on her successes in filling the role of Financial Director at the Research Foundation from 2014 to 2016 and her significant accounting background.

She brings a unique perspective of the challenges the Foundation faces along with an optimistic viewpoint of how she will help the Foundation more fully realize its mission of supporting Chico State. Bourne believes that as the Foundation becomes a more mature, sophisticated organization, it will be able to offer more creative solutions, deliver new opportunities for additional revenue and support, and partner better with the University in its programmatic endeavors.  During her tenure as interim executive director, Bourne led many internal efforts, such as:

  • improved accounting and business practices;
  • an upgrade to the enterprise software system;
  • recruitment of an Ecological Reserves manager; and
  • enhanced relations with University Foundation leading to a renewal of their confidence in the Research Foundation’s processes and services.

“My interest is to see the Foundation succeed,” stated Bourne, “and I am excited to be given the opportunity to lead the organization further with a focus on strengthening collaborations and serving the campus community.”

On the behalf of the CSU, Chico University Research Foundation Board, I am happy to give Jessica the opportunity to do just that. The Board is committed to building a modern Foundation that supports the growth of sponsored and community programs through enhanced communications, streamlined processes, excellent fiscal practices, and partnerships. We have the right combination to achieve this vision through Bourne’s ‘can do’ approach and an engaged Board committed to providing guidance, expertise, and oversight.

Please join me in congratulating Jessica Bourne on her selection for this important leadership role at our University.

Many thanks to the search committee for their care and professionalism throughout this process.
