RESP Leadership Transition effective January 22, 2019

January 22, 2019
Debra S. Larson, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs

Effective January 22, Dr. David Hassenzahl will begin serving as the Interim AVP of RESP while continuing in his role as Dean of the College of Natural Sciences. Dr. Richard Tafalla will be transitioning to the faculty in the Psychology department as a full professor in fall 2019.

In addition, we are conducting a three-month process redesign that launched on January 7. Led by Jason Schwenkler, in collaboration with the RF and RESP, the goals of this focused initiative are:

  • to design, with a small team of RF, RESP, and other key stakeholders, a lean and effective process that addresses the full life cycle of a grant and/or contract,
  • to shift the missions of both RF and RESP towards serving grant and contract makers, and
  • to propose a plan for implementation of said process.

The process redesign initiative is also timed to build upon the installation of the OneSolution software and to inform the eventual selection and installation of a pre-award software solution.

I anticipate gaining insights, as an outcome of the process redesign, which may lead to refinements of our organization that supports research, contracts, externally funded activities, and other entrepreneurial efforts.
