Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs

Appointment of Vice Provost for Academic Programs

December 15, 2017
Debra S. Larson, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs

It is my pleasure to announce that Daniel Grassian has accepted the position of Vice Provost for Academic Programs in Academic Affairs at Chico State. Dr. Grassian will assume his new responsibilities on February 15, 2018.

Grassian comes to us with broad experience that includes WASC accreditation, educational effectiveness, data/institutional research, undergraduate and graduate programs, assessment, recruiting, student life, curriculum and articulation, and more.  He has had successful supervisory experience with all elements of his complex administrative portfolio.

“Dr. Grassian earned this important appointment as a result of his considerable leadership experience across the entire academic affairs division,” said Dr. Charles Zartman, chair of the search committee and EMEDC. “He has served as the Accreditation Liaison Officer at two of his previous campuses and was the lead writer/editor of the self-study at the third institution. Consequently, he possesses a deep understanding of assessment.  Those who encounter him will quickly find a calm, humble, sensitive, hard-working doer who will engage in the considerable work at hand, and do so with great respect for students and faculty colleagues alike.”

Grassian earned both his doctorate and Masters in English at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and his undergraduate degree in English and Psychology at Wesleyan University, in Middleton, Connecticut.

We are confident Grassian will serve us well in helping the University prepare for and meet the requirements for WASC and the Graduation Initiative 2025, as well as the many challenges we face in higher education. Please join me in congratulating Daniel Grassian on his selection for this important leadership role in our University.
