Faculty Payback Information

A faculty payback occurs when a college or administrative office borrows faculty from another college/department. We also use the payback rate for our assessment allocations, and associated AWTU (assigned weighted teaching units) when we fund different projects. Oftentimes the Chancellor's Office uses the rate for funding their projects that our faculty are involved with. A payback essentially pays for the replacement of that faculty member in the classroom, thus the faculty payback rate is based on the minimum annual salary for AY Lecturer B/Range 3, divided by 10. This rate can change based on any GSI's or other changes to the AY Lecturer (job code 2358) salary schedule.

The deadline for units to submit their General Fund Payback Expenditure Transfer Requests are Sept 1 for Fall and Feb 1 for Spring.

The payback rate for the 23/24 Academic Year is $6,812 per 3 WTU per semester.
